Who we are

SCLC RICHMOND

founded in 1957

Following the success of the Montgomery bus boycott, 60 ministers and social justice advocates met in Atlanta to form The  Southern Christian Leadership Conference. We are the Richmond, Virginia Chapter of the legacy Civil Rights and Social Justice Organization that inspired the historic March on Washington where our founder gave the “I have a Dream” speech that is etched in the consciousness of the world. We are the organization that inspired and led many of the non violent protests that changed the policies of an injustice system of racial inequality, prejudice and bigotry. We are still today fighting the GOOD FIGHT as charged by John Lewis, to remember and NEVER forget. The Struggle Continues. We ARE The Southern Christian Leadership Conference - Richmond VA Chapter.
